WEBBER INDEPENDENT’S ENTERPRISING STUDENTS SECURE THEIR UNIVERSITY OF CHOICE WITH BUSINESS TOP OF THE AGENDA

16 August 2018

Students at The Webber Independent School favour Business & Enterprise and STEAM degrees as they secure their university of choice.

Ellie Wise, Head Girl, was elated with her confirmed place at Leicester University. “I’m really pleased with my results; I achieved a B in English Literature, B in History and B in Politics, and secured my first choice university to study Law. I don’t think I could have made it through the last two years without the support of my tutors, and I know that my time at Webber will stand me in good stead for my future at university and beyond. After university I would like a career in family law.”

Ellie’s mum, Mrs Deborah Cross, said: “I am incredibly proud of my daughter, she is very hardworking and really deserves her success. Her focus and determination have seen her through some tough times and now she is on her way to doing something she is passionate about. I will miss her terribly when she goes off to university, not to mention she is leaving me on my own with a house full of boys.”

Fin Walker secured a place at Aston University and was over the moon. “I can’t quite believe that I secured my first choice university and that I am off to study Marketing. I am unbelievably happy with my results; I achieved a B in English Literature, B in Business and a C in Government and Politics. I’ve had such an amazing time growing as an individual, and compared to where I was four years ago before I joined Webber, I am honestly surprised at how far I’ve come. I would like to thank all of my tutors, and my parents for taking me out of my old school and giving me a fresh start – it changed my future.”

Fin’s mum, Ms Alison Hughes, said: “I am delighted with how far Fin has come in such a short space of time. I am so glad we made the decision to take Fin out of his old school and put him in the right environment to learn and shine. He has worked so hard to turn his future path around and I am proud of his results, especially his result in English Literature as success in this area was harder due to his dyslexia. I’d like to say a big thank you to The Webber Independent and Fin’s tutors for helping him achieve what I knew he was always capable of.”

Head Boy, Ben Parker, shares his thoughts on alternative pathways to success. “I’ve decided to take a different route to secure the career that I want and I’ve been successful in securing a prestigious three year apprenticeship with Aston Martin. I have also been offered an apprenticeship with Mercedes, so I’m in a nice position and feel very lucky. My time at Webber has helped me become a more confident and adaptable person and I really can’t wait to get started on classic vehicle restoration.”

Mrs Laura Parker said: “We’re so proud of Ben, he has worked so hard and we couldn’t be happier. He is so excited to start his new career, and I am so thankful for all the fantastic career and networking opportunities offered by Webber.”

Speaking about the School’s students, Headmistress, Hilary Marsden said:

“This year we’ve seen an increase in students choosing to study in the fields of Business and Enterprise, which will put our young people in good standing to take up careers in the growing area of service economy.

“Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than seeing our students achieve their goals, and leave The Webber Independent with the right skills, experience and attitude, there are many different pathways to success and I’m glad that we can play a part in helping our students achieve their dreams. I want to say a big heart-felt congratulations to all of our A Level students and I wish them the very best for the future. I look forward to welcoming our alumni back to share their stories and experiences with the current Webber cohort.”
