Year 7 students at The Webber Independent School recently took part in the Red Bull STEMx Experience, a hands-on STEM enrichment day designed to bring engineering, design and problem-solving to life through a series of interactive challenges inspired by the world of Formula One. Our friends from Red Bull returned to Webber to deliver the nationally recognised STEMx programme, having previously visited the school to inspire students through engaging STEM-focused activities. Delivered in partnership with schools across the country, the programme gives students the opportunity to explore STEM subjects through practical, team-based challenges and real-world applications.
Throughout the day, students rotated through a range of activity zones, each focusing on different aspects of motorsport and engineering. In the Pit Stop Challenge, teams worked together to complete timed tyre-change tasks, developing communication, coordination and teamwork skills under pressure. The STEM Racing activity saw students build, test and race miniature cars, encouraging them to apply engineering principles while exploring the importance of design, performance and precision. Students also had the opportunity to celebrate their successes on a podium-style presentation at the end of the challenge. In the Media Zone, pupils stepped into the role of presenters and interviewees, taking part in post-race interviews and broadcast-style filming activities. Meanwhile, the Design Challenge encouraged creativity and innovation as students developed concepts for car liveries and helmet designs.
The event provided a valuable opportunity for students to engage with STEM subjects in a practical and enjoyable way, while developing key skills such as collaboration, communication, critical thinking and problem-solving.
Experiences such as the Red Bull STEMx programme support the school’s commitment to providing meaningful learning opportunities beyond the classroom and helping students make connections between their studies and future career pathways. We are grateful to the Red Bull team for returning to Webber and continuing to provide our students with such memorable and inspiring experiences.
