We were invited to take part in the ‘Message of Hope 2021’ at MK Food Bank. During our Harvest Festival we collected donations for the Food Bank along with numerous other schools in Milton Keynes. They were inundated with over 360,000 donations which have already been distributed to families in need this year.
The MK Food Bank wanted to share in this amazing charity work and thank the schools for their involvement and decided to create the Tree of Hope event. The team sent out 5,750 Christmas decoration tags to schools and asked children in Years 2-6 to write a Christmas Message of Hope. Incredibly the number of tags was chosen as it represented the number of children in Milton Keynes that have received a parcel from the MK Food Bank throughout 2021 - meaning that 5750 children have benefitted from donations given to the Food Bank in our local community so far this year!
We attended the celebrations on Wednesday 1st December. We selected four children that would represent their class as an ambassador to take their friends' Messages of Hope and participate in the celebration together. Toyosi, Liza, Naishe and Ashlyn thoroughly enjoyed the event which included meeting Father Christmas, having a conversation about their messages with Milton Keynes Deputy Mayor, Amanda Marlow and also having time to talk to and thank the wonderful food bank volunteers. After hanging their messages on the tree and surrounding walls they watched some thank you messages from people in the local community. We finished by enjoying some hot chocolate and marshmallows and all sang some Christmas carols together with children from other schools. It was such a wonderful event and the children were amazed to see how their own small contributions could make such a big difference and were so pleased to be able to help so many other children in Milton Keynes in such a positive way.
We have again collected donations for Christmas Hampers and have been inundated with donations from our generous families. Our Senior students today delivered twelve shopping trolleys full to the brim with Christmas goodies!
At Webber we value family and community and being involved with this charity is a wonderful way for our children to give back to their local area and learn more about charity and the ways we can support them.
