Webber Alumni Lewis makes his MK Dons League Debut

01 February 2021

16-year-old Lewis Johnson, former Head Boy at the Webber Independent made his debut league appearance and became the 250th player to pull on an MK Dons shirt during their 2-0 match against Bristol Rovers on boxing day.

Lewis first started playing football at just 6 years old and his first club was the City Colts in Middleton.

Despite his recent success Lewis found the sport hard at first. “I wasn’t very good and I didn't really enjoy it to start with but with the help of my supportive parents I persevered and kept going.”

Lewis’s perseverance paid off and he has played football competitively from the age of 9 always being extremely proud to represent his Webber school team.

Having joined the MK Dons Academy from Aston Villa in 2019 Lewis quickly caught the eye of the first-team manager Russel Martin. “I watched Lewis in the FA Youth Cup last month and he was outstanding. We wouldn’t have put him on the pitch, if he haven’t have earned it.” Martin said after the teams victory against Bristol Rovers.

When asked his aspirations for the future Lewis replied with “Firstly I’m grateful for the support that my family, the manager, coaches and club, teammates and Webber community have given me. I now want to kick on, establish myself in the first team and contribute to the success of the club in the best way I can. I want to play for my country and finally to use my platform to help and inspire other people.”

All the staff and pupils at The Webber Independent School are extremely proud of Lewis, his achievements, and his dedication to the sport. We know he has a very successful future ahead of his and will continue to support Lewis throughout his career.
