Year 8 student Eva De Gorter braved the shave this December to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
‘Brave the shave’ is a fundraising campaign run by Macmillan, where willing volunteers shave their heads to raise much needed funds for the charity.
After watching a video of someone else braving the shave to raise money for Macmillan. Eva asked her mother Julie if she would be allowed to do the same. Julie agreed but asked Eva to wait 6 months to make sure she wanted to go ahead with it.
6 months passed and Eva was as keen as ever. Having previously donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, Eva wanted to go one step further and raise as much money as possible to help people with cancer and their families.
The day of the shave arrived and by this point Eva’s brunette hair was well past her shoulders. But selfless as ever she didn’t look back and now sports a very chic looking shaved head. Eva says she has no regrets following the shave and is very proud of herself.
Mrs Marsden expressed what a lovely student Eva is and how everyone at the school is very proud and very humbled by what she has achieved. “Everyone, no matter how young has agency – They have the ability to make a choice to do something positive which will make a difference to others. Eva is an excellent example of a young person with agency.”
Having raised over £2,400 from over 120 sponsors Eva is keen to raise even more money to help those effected by cancer and every donation is appreciated.
