In the past two weeks two lovely things have happened to me in school that really made my week because they were surprising, unexpected, mysterious and in one case delicious!
I never get any exciting parcels at school; my hopes are raised at times by promising parcels with my name on which turn out to be science chemicals or free Spanish textbook samples! However, this week an unpromising parcel with a ‘Brownie Plug’ label turned out wonderfully not to be a box of electric plugs but a gooey, oozy box of chocolate brownies – from `Sarah` ???
Who was this mysterious Brownie Fairy? I know 6 Sarah’s – parents, colleagues, friends, cousins and my dentist (I ruled her out!) I eventually tracked her down, Miss Taylor in Year 3! “Brownies for sharing in my office” proved to be the most well received email of the week, I spread the love!
My second lovely surprise was another act of kindness. Little purple organza bags mysteriously popped up all over the school last week. Left on desks, chairs, stairs, by the phone, next to the kettle, on children’s tables, hanging from the door handle to be randomly discovered and picked up. Attached was a lovely handwritten note, from “Mr E” and a wooden ‘hug’ inside.
These ‘hugs’ delighted staff and children in equal measure – But we don’t have any male teachers whose surname starts with an E! … The penny dropped Mr E = mystery! There has been much discussion and speculation, but the mystery continues. The kind, caring, anonymous, Mr E brought lightness, fun and a warm glow with the thoughtful wooden ‘hugs’.
I’m sharing the one I found with you all, random acts of kindness – small in size but large in impact – to lighten the mood and bring a little Brownie Fairy sparkle to a dark day!
Spread the magic, why not take part in the Month of Kindness Challenge as a family. Small things but with big impact on the mental health of the giver as well as the recipient. Don’t forget to share them with us on social media using the hashtag #Webberfamily.
I’m passing my `hug` to you! Keep It safe in your pocket until you need it most.
