At Webber we provide excellent leadership opportunities that our students can carry with them once they leave school and venture out into the big wide world. By applying for roles such as School Council Form Rep, Prefect, Heads of House and Head Boy and Girl, our students experience the whole job application process, from writing their Curriculum Vitae’s and application letters, to a formal interview and feedback session.
Our Head Boy, Milo De Gorter and Head Girl, Samantha Gomez have shared some of the experiences and opportunities they have undertaken:
“Webber has always provided leadership opportunities to students which allow them to grow and develop personal characteristics. A leader must not only show authority in a group but let others be heard and this is a key thing we are taught. After the process of Prefects, students are asked to interview for roles in the Senior Student Executive team, which helps students to talk about the fantastic qualities they possess, learn CV skills and interview techniques.
Taking on a leadership role involves learning how to talk the talk and listen to a variety of people, including younger students, external visitors, parents and important guests that may visit the school. The school trusts us to share honest opinions and independently take tours of prospective families. Through a mentoring process the Senior Student Executive team works closely with Prefects to prepare them for their positions and we even help Ms Chessum interview them for their role.
At Webber making sure every student has the opportunity to make a change and feel important is a big aspect of my role of Head Girl. The skills and qualities the role helps us develop are excellent in helping us prepare us for our best possible futures, which would not be possible without these leadership opportunities.”
Samantha Gomez - Current Head Girl
“In having the prestigious role as Head Boy, one of the primary responsibilities lies in organizing and managing the Student Council. This can vary from listening to older students' views and valuing their input to encouraging younger years to present their good ideas and thoughts too. We support students to give both positive and constructive opinions about a variety of topics. As well as this, we ensure a range of students from each year are able to attend, in order to give everyone a chance to be heard. We feel this is a good idea as it builds confidence as well as presentation skills, both of which are valuable for later life.”
Milo De Gorter - Current Head Boy

I wish them luck and look forward to hearing from our talented, interesting and passionate young people. I look forward to congratulating our new Student Leadership team and will share the final appointments with you in a later issue.
