On Saturday 4 of our Junior Park Rangers attended a workshop at Linford Manor Park. The Junior Park Rangers scheme is based on peer education and is designed to engage children in the natural world, their local parks and the wildlife they can find there.
The workshop they attended focussed on the John Muir Award. John Muir was the founder of the National Parks in America as well as a celebrated ecologist.
The Parks Trust takes part in this nationally recognised award every year and our Junior Park Rangers took part in some very exciting activities, such as making log piles for stag beetles and a selection of craft activities using natural materials like leaves, twigs and other foliage found in the park.
The Trust's John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme focused on wild places. It is inclusive, accessible and non-competitive, though should challenge each participant! The Award encourages awareness and responsibility for the natural environment around us in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration.
Our Junior School pupils had an amazing morning and look forward to carrying on with their John Muir Award activities when they return to School after the Easter break!
