Our Little Explorers (aged 6 months to 2 years) are living up to their name; exploring and investigating through daily heuristic play sessions and they just love discovering all of the objects on offer.
Heuristic learning encompasses the notion of exploratory play which is self‐directed by the child without adult intervention. Commonly, the objects are placed in a treasure basket within reach of where very young infants are seated, and high levels of concentration, engagement, and persistence are observed as the children explore the nature of the presented objects.
The adult acts as an observer, having first selected a range of natural, everyday objects or combinations of objects, to stimulate particularly the child's senses and their development of schema or different learning techniques.
If you would like to know more about heuristic play and schemas and how you can implement this at home, please contact your child's key person and they will be happy to help.
