The children in the Little Explorers and Little Adventurers rooms have been exploring messy and sensory play this half term. They have squished, squashed and squelched many different materials such as angel delight, flour, paint, gloop and pasta!
We ensure that all the resources we use are suitable for our children with allergies making our own gluten-free playdough and sourcing alternatives where necessary to ensure all children are included in the sloppy, slippy fun!
We understand that many parents are put off by the idea of messy play, as although finger painting and crafts sounds fun at first, the reality of paint, glue and glitter getting everywhere and the inevitable clean up operation that follows soon sets in. However, many studies have shown that messy play is one of the best ways for our children to learn and develop, so now is the time to embrace it and get messy! You know your child has enjoyed learning moments of awe and wonder when we send them home looking like they have been rolling in mud, glue and twigs!
Here at The Webber Nursery we encourage our children to engage in messy and sensory play as much as possible. Plus, we clean up all the mess so you don’t have too!
Messy play helps your child’s learning process. It promotes engagement with the senses and helps develop your child’s cognitive and creative development.
Messy play also promotes:
- Physical development
- Language development
- Creative development
- Emotional development
- Social development
- Mathematical development
The children have enjoyed getting creative and inventive with the messy play materials in a variety of ways from emptying and filling containers, burying toy animals and drawing pictures with their fingers.
Our mini learners have further developed the use of their senses by playing out in the rain and feeling the raindrops fall onto their coats and wellies or going on a sound walk around the school grounds using their best ‘listening ears’ to find what interesting noises they can hear.
Why don’t you be brave – roll out the plastic sheeting and get messy at home! We dare you! Pictures Please!
