Children’s Mental Health Week took place between 1st and the 7th February, this year’s theme was 'Express Yourself' and focused on ways our young people can share their feelings, thoughts and ideas with those around them.
The mental health and wellbeing of our pupils here at The Webber is of the utmost importance, especially at the moment where many of us feel overwhelmed by the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. It is easy to feel alone or isolated when told to stay at home and we are working hard to ensure pupils and parents across all year groups feel fully supported.
Children’s Mental Health Week saw students across the school embraced new challenges and experiences during lessons and in their own time.
Break out rooms and a week without home learning have been two adaptations to the online learning at Virtual Webber. Ensuring our children have more time to interact with their families and peers.
In PE lessons Reception to Year 11 students have participated in Yoga, mindfulness and meditation lessons.
Reception students have discussed what they are grateful for and it was heart warming to hear their responses of Mum and Dad, teachers, nice weather, yummy lunch and being healthy!
Year 5 have written letters to either a family member, staff member or someone else to explain how they have been coping during the lockdown period, what they have done to keep themselves happy. They were also asked to say what they are missing and looking forward to once lockdown eases.
When asked what children could do to support their own mental health and well being Year 8 student Georgia said “relax, read a book, take time for yourself and just do what makes you happy.”
The ‘30 Days of Kindness Challenge’ has shown, once again how thoughtful, caring and selfless our students are. Some examples of acts of kindness our Year 10 students have undertaken are: Helped a neighbour with their shopping, took them flowers as they just came out of hospital, helped siblings and even cut their Dads hair!
Year 10’s and 11’s in addition to participating in ‘Acts of Kindness’ have also been taking advice and accepting challenges from the ‘BBC Bitesize 14 days - Sort Your Life Out Challenge!’ Some students have even been cleaning their rooms!
Make sure to look out for the Well Done Webber Virtual Learner cards and video message that will be popping through your letterbox soon!
