On Tuesday 15th June, students in Years 3-6 took part in The Biggest Sing, an on-line event hosted by Young Voices. The aim was to beat the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous sing- along ever, and over 360,000 students and teachers took part from all over the world.
The event was hosted by artists Billy Ocean, Yolanda Brown and Ruti, and was streamed live from the O2 Arena in London, with every participating school projected onto their Zoom wall.
The song chosen for the occasion was the Bill Withers classic Lovely Day, which the students learned beforehand in their music lessons. They also learned to sign some of the lyrics to the song using sign language, which was equally enjoyable and rewarding.
As well as being a record attempt and lots of fun, the event was also a charity fund-raiser, supporting the mental health charity Place2Be. During these current times, the mental health of children is of paramount concern, and so we as the Webber were proud to be able to support this worthy cause.
Next year, I very much hope to be able to take a large group of our junior student to one of the Young Voices events, as we have done in the past. This year, though, The Biggest Sing really helped to keep us all in touch with this organisation and the amazing work this organisation does to encourage singing in schools.
