The Milton Keynes Development Partnership (MKDP) announced the winners of the Future:MK competition, where local young people proposed ideas for developing Milton Keynes' architecture and design. Milton Keynes is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK, and an exciting place to live, work, run a business and take part in leisure activities - giving students a great source of inspiration for their ideas.
The Webber Independent School encouraged its students to enter one of the three categories: Writing, Model Design and Art and Design, providing a chance for Webber students to demonstrate their creative capabilities, and voice their ideas for the next generation of Milton Keynes' citizens living and working in the city.
We were delighted to hear that one of our students, Tate Kiveal, in Year 10, won the KS4 Art and Design category and was rewarded with a £50 Hobbycraft voucher. Tate attended the presentation, and Charles Macdonald, MKDP chief executive took Tate into his office and showed him plans on how they were looking to develop MK in the future, which was an enriching and exciting experience for Tate.
MKDP chief executive Charles Macdonald awarded prizes to the seven winners who could choose between presenting their ideas in writing, as a piece of art or as models.
He said: “It’s been a really interesting insight into the thoughts of MK’s future generation. We were all impressed by the creativity and work that had gone into many of the entries and had a really tough job deciding who the winners should be. We are extremely grateful to the teachers who inspired their pupils to get involved in thinking about the future of their city.”
A big well done to Tate and our four students that had their designs shortlisted: Vanessa A in year 7, Kaiyah R in year 7, Elliot B in year 8 and in the 3D model making category, Jessica M in year 7.
The winning entries will be displayed in Milton Keynes library as part of the MK50 Showcase event that is taking place from January 18th to February 22nd - we do hope you can make time to see our students work on display.
