At the Webber Independent School, our story spans more than half a century of growth, change and achievement. What began as a small independent school has evolved into a thriving, forward-thinking community that supports children from 6 months to 16 years, while staying true to our founding values.
We were originally founded in 1970 by educator Renee Soskin as Bury Lawn School. While historical records reference an even earlier ‘open date’ linked to education on the site, our modern identity and journey began from this foundation, shaped by decades of development and ambition.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, we operated under the Bury Lawn name, building a strong reputation in the region. During this period of growth, our Senior School was based for a time at The Knoll School buildings in Aspley Heath between 1977 and 1987 – an important chapter that reflected our expanding community and evolving provision.
A major milestone in our history came in 2003, when we joined the global education group GEMS Education. This marked a new era of development and investment, which ultimately led to our renaming in 2011 from Bury Lawn Education Limited to the Webber Independent School. More recently, we became part of Bellevue Education, connecting us to a wider network of independent schools committed to excellence in education.
In 2020, we expanded our provision further by introducing a Nursery for children from just 6 months old, allowing us to support families from the earliest stages of learning through to GCSEs. Today, our campus on Soskin Drive in Stantonbury continues to reflect our heritage, proudly carrying the name of our founder and remaining rooted in the local community.
