Students at Webber know all about the 5 Ps which are the basis of our student expectations and excellent behaviour at Webber:
Preparation
Punctuality
Presentation
Performance
Proud
However during the last half term we have been focussing on a different set of 3Ps Preparation, Practise and Passion ! I have been fortunate enough to have spent lots of time interviewing our 10 excellent candidates for the new Year 11 Head Student Team and running mock interviews for our outgoing Year 11 students for their post 16 destination interviews. Ms Chessum has also put the whole of Year 9 through their paces in their Prefect interview and Miss Duff has been finalising the Year 6 Prefect interview and selection process.
What comes across most strongly is the preparation, the students had really done their home learning and reflected on who they are and what makes them unique and what they have to offer. They had considered mindfully what serving their School community really means and were able to discuss and exemplify this both inside our school and in their wider home, sporting, creative and faith communities.
They had practiced their interview technique at home with parents and older siblings and video called each other so that they were confident, polished and clear on what they wanted to say in their interviews and presentations.
During their interviews their passion shone through as they talked about their time at Webber and how they have developed academically and grown in confidence in themselves. It is always lovely to find out more about each individual.
These soft skills are what I feel really sets a Webber student apart. The ability to talk about themselves, their skills and competencies with confidence but without arrogance. To express their ideas with passion and conviction and to genuinely want to serve and give back to the Webber community which they feel has offered them many opportunities.
The new cohort of Head Students and Year 9 and Year 6 Prefects have the challenge now before them to ensure that they Walk the Walk and make time each day to use their agency in a positive, inspirational and impactful way at Webber.
I look forward to working with them all and I am very keen to see how they will grow and shine in their new roles as the School Leaders of 2021- 2022.
