On Friday 8th October 90 students from Year 6, 7 and 8 travelled to Middleton Hall in Milton Keynes to attend the MK Innovate STEAM exhibition.
The students enjoyed interacting with the exhibitors and came back to school with new knowledge of STEAM careers.
Activities included coding with Network Rail, which challenged the students to write code to prevent a train from crashing into landslides!
As well as and building switches for the Nifty Lift to turn the lift on and off.
Mrs Garwood and our students were very excited to be allowed to hold the steering wheel from a Redbull Formula 1 racing car!
We were not surprised that it cost £60,000 to build but were surprised that one of the buttons was marked drink. The exhibitor explained that when they pressed this button water was pumped from a bottle low down in the car to a tube beside the driver’s mouth. He commented that the pump used was the same one used for the windscreen wiper and that it often got stuck and when it did the drivers would get very wet!
The City Fibre stand was also a big hit with the students as they enjoyed the challenge of trying to get from one end of the wire to the other without completing the circuit and setting off the buzzer, of course the prize of a sweet was great motivation!
The students really enjoyed the trip to the MK STEAM festival and it was great to hear that some of the Year 10 and 11 students visited the STEAM exhibitions at the weekend.
