Back To Better

23 April 2021

Over the past few weeks it has been a joyous, positive and hopeful experience to be able to start putting Key Dates and School Events back onto the School Calendar!

The 'mood music' at Webber amongst the staff and children as we have started Term 3 is one of excitement, positivity, anticipation and ambition as we don't just get back to our normal routine, but we seize this opportunity to get 'Back to Better' and look forward to the wealth of opportunities and variety and richness of education in our School. This is in sharp contrast to the overwhelming national narrative of drudgery and negativity we currently hear in the press around schools where the focus is on catching up, falling behind, learning gaps and what still can't be done.

Resilience, forward thinking and agility have been key throughout this pandemic not just on a personal level but with institutions and organizations too and at Webber we have modelled for our young people the need to remain positive and optimistic, pivot quickly and seize opportunities for growth and learning.

It has been wonderful, particularly this week to see the adaptability, ingenuity and creativity of teachers and students taking their learning outside of the classroom to sing, perform, act, explore, clean up, create and learn collaboratively. Some of these highlights have been shared through our social media channels and are highlighted in this issue.

There is such a buzz and energy on the sports field each lunchtime with happy young people enjoying playing, chatting and just being with each other! The beating heart of Webber is strong and is certainly commented on as visitors corridor tour the various parts of the school.

It's super to see the Extra Curricular Programme running again with almost 50 opportunities for our children to learn, grow, collaborate and enrich themselves. We will be featuring a sample of their highlights of the ECAs in each coming newsletter.

Sports Day, Juniors School Father's Day Breakfast, Summer Concerts, Awards Ceremonies, Trips and Activities Week and the Bushcraft Residential (fish eyeball eating challenge anyone?)  lots of great events and experiences still to look forward to this term.
