Learning to read is so important, we all know that. Research shows that children with good literacy skills do well throughout their education and are much more likely to be successful in later life.
But there’s also evidence to suggest that the benefits of being read to frequently as a child go way beyond just literacy skills, helping children understand the world better, recognise and express their emotions and problem solve.
Today we are celebrating World Book Day, the Nursery children have loved dressing up as their favourite characters and spent the week singing so many different nursery rhymes - lots of them with fun actions to help them to tell the rhyme.
The children have also been treated to a mystery reader today who turned out to be Mr Jeacock. Mr Jeacock surprised them with a reading of Each, Peach, Pear, Plum which they all thoroughly enjoyed.
Throughout the week the children have had a variety of sensory activities around a number of wonderful stories in their tuff trays filled with resources to touch, feel, retell and talk about the story of the day.
We aim to instil a lifelong love of Reading into all our children, which will hope they will take with they continue on their Webber journey.
