THE WEBBER GCSE EXPERIENCE

A phrase you'll hear our students use quite frequently is...what have you done today to make you feel proud? A simple question that captures the very spirit of our positive educational environment.

As educators we have proud moments every day but we're particularly proud of our students' academic performance. In 2017, 92.3% of our students achieved A* - C grades at GCSE, including English and Maths. We believe that our personalised approach to learning, our Study Skills Programme, and access to resources and enrichment activities, provide the right environment for our young people to flourish.

The Webber Team will do all they can to assist students transitioning from Year 9 to Year 10, supporting the important decision process around subject selection. We use Cambridge Online Assessments and one-to-one interviews to help focus our young people’s choices around their strengths and talents.

We offer a diverse range of GCSE subjects, and have a track record of strong performance in the highly academic subjects of Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, English Language and English Literature. Other areas of particular strength include: Government & Politics, Technology, Art, Music, PE and Modern Foreign Languages.

Our GCSE offering requires the selection of nine subjects, which must include Maths, English Language and English Literature. We do provide flexibility and cater to different levels of ability and talent; for example, some students may decide to take early entry GCSE Mathematics (in Year 10) - providing the opportunity to study Further Mathematics in Year 11), in preparation for study at A-levels.

BOOSTER CLASSES

Our priority is making sure that all of our GCSE students have the right support and attention. That's why we offer GCSE Booster Classes, at no additional cost, during lunchtime and after school.

BUSINESS & ENTERPRISE

Preparing our students with the skills and mindset for the modern workplace is one of our top priorities. We have developed a robust Business & Enterprise programme that includes access to TED Talks, Career Fairs, Business Conferences and workplace visits, in addition to a one week Work Experience Placement.

We further support our young people through the development of their Curriculum Vitae and Letters of Application, as well as honing their interview skills. We have a number of clubs and societies that help build leadership and business skills, including the Entrepreneur's Club, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and The Army Cadet Force.

STUDY SKILLS

Our Study Skills Programme is designed to give students the confidence required to do well in their GCSEs. Our programme focuses on providing our young people with the skills and tools to aid with exam revision, which includes the development of mindset and well-being habits. Additionally, we provide a personalised Gap Analysis with detailed feedback following the Mock Examinations, giving all of our students guidance on where to apply their focus.

Our team is here to make sure your son or daughter is well looked after and supported to achieve the best possible exam outcomes.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year we offer a limited number of scholarships to students who demonstrate academic, sporting or artistic excellence. For further information please see our Scholarships page.

THE WEBBER A-LEVEL EXPERIENCE

Our Sixth Form experience delivers a private tutorial style learning environment, focused on the goals and needs of our young people. Our mission is to help our Sixth Form cohort obtain top results, gain employability skills, develop a growth mindset, and grow as young adults through their participation in the wider school activities, clubs and The Student Council.

We have a dedicated Sixth Form Team that prepares our students for life after Webber, whether that's university, apprenticeships, employment or travel. The team work to develop independent learning skills, helping our students to build on their research, presentation, critical thinking, debating and study skills, preparing them for the rigours of university study.

In addition to the academic life at Webber Independent, we encourage our Sixth Form to develop their emotional intelligence and leadership through extra-curricular activities and participation in The Student Council. Each year we appoint a Head Boy and Head Girl, along with the Sixth Form Executive. These individuals are responsible for leading The Student Council and The House System, and meet with the Headmistress and Deputy Head on a weekly basis to discuss student involvement in Charity Fundraising and other student-led initiatives.

Our unique blend of personalised tutorial style learning, development of independent study skills, and teaching of life and employability skills, has seen our Sixth Form students consistently secure their first choice universities.

BUSINESS & ENTERPRISE

One of our top priorities is preparing our students with the skills and mindset that will take them beyond university life and into the modern workplace. Our Business & Enterprise programme helps to deliver the necessary experience to develop these skills.

We offer a robust Business & Enterprise programme that includes access to TED Talks, Career Fairs, Business Conferences and workplace visits, as well as a two week internship. Many of our students choose an internship that is relevant to their university course, which proves invaluable on their UCAS applications.

Additionally, our Sixth Form students benefit from one-to-one career and university coaching as well as support with their UCAS Application, Personal Statements, Curriculum Vitae, Letters of Application, and interview skills. We also have a number of clubs and societies that help build leadership and business skills, including the Entrepreneur's Club, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and The Army Cadet Force.

STUDY SKILLS

Our Study Skills Programme is designed to give students the confidence to do well in their A-levels. In keeping with the university-style approach, our students are encouraged to Bring Their Own Device (BYOD) to use for their studies with us, aiding with access to academic journals and research reports, in both the classroom environment and their Sixth Form Study Centre.

Our programme focuses on providing our young people with the skills and tools to aid with exam revision and the development of good mindset and well-being habits. Additionally, we provide a personalised Gap Analysis with detailed feedback following the Mock Examinations, giving all of our students guidance on where to apply their focus by setting SMART goals.

Our team is here to make sure your son or daughter is well looked after and supported to achieve the best possible exam outcomes.
